The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a prominent honors show draws close, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
