From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
